About the speakers:

Astrid Kahmke has a background as producer for international feature films, and was Creative Director of the Bavarian Film Center, where she started to build the infrastructure for the XR industry in Bavaria. She is Festivaldirector and co-founder of the Virtual Worlds Festival and head of the European Creators’ lab for artistic XR.

Maria Courtial, industrial designer by trade, is co-founder, producer and managing director of Faber Courtial, one of Germany’s leading VR and VFX studios. After graduating in Industrial Design in 1998, she founded Faber Courtial together with her husband Joerg. Since 2014, Maria has mainly taken over the position of producer and part-director. The creation of 360° film content became more and more a matter of heart to her. Right from the beginning of each project, she and her husband and director Joerg are working closely together with the ambition to set high standards in the way of storytelling and the implementation of new VR techniques. With their award-winning VR films Volcanos, Gladiators in the Colosseum and 2nd Step – all produced on behalf of Europe’s renowned public-law broadcaster ZDF – Faber Courtial established itself as VR pioneer and provider of premium VR content on the international market. Their latest VR film 1st Step, which deals with the Apollo missions, celebrated its international premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival 2020 and was awarded with the VeeR Future Award at Cannes XR 2020 as well as the EMEA Lumiere Award (Stereopsia 2020). Moreover, it was selected to screen at the Best-of-VR section at Venice Film Festival in the same year.
Meanwhile, the studio is increasingly creating content in 6DOF. Their new VR project “Genesis” will be released this year both as a VR film and later as a 6DOF experience.

Cathy Hackl is a leading tech futurist and globally recognized business leader specializing in augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), & spatial computing. She is one of LinkedIn's top technology voices (the highest honor on the platform) and a champion for diversity.
