We were here. Poems on the Present

Full of humor, musicality, lightness and rage, Ulrike Almut Sandig's poetry has loops in your ear. The German poet will read and perform her playful poems in English and German.

Ulrike Almut Sandig is a writer, musician, and translator based in Berlin. She has published numerous collections of poetry and stories, as well as music albums and audio plays. Most recently, her translation of the New Zealand poet Hinemoana Baker's work, titled »Funkhaus«, was released by the publisher Voland & Quist. Sandig is at home on international stages with her own poetry, often collaborating with artists in India, New Zealand, and Ukraine. In 2015, she co-founded the poetry collective »Landschaft« with Grigory Semenchuk, combining poetry with music and video art. An album of the same name was released in 2018, followed by five digital single releases. Regarding her latest collection, “Leuchtende Schafe” (published by Schöffling), the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung wrote: “Ulrike Almut Sandig’s poetry offers her readers freedom.” Sandig is also a member of PEN Berlin.
