Choir Conducting Masterclass
With Kerstin Behnke

Choir Conducting Masterclass with Kerstin Behnke © Goethe-Institut Indonesia / Each Other Company

is a comprehensive training programme that focuses on musical knowledge, conducting techniques, and the practical skills required to lead and manage a choir. Participants will work closely with a university choir consisting of approximately 45 singers, allowing for hands-on learning in a real rehearsal setting.

The Choir Conducting Masterclass will take place from 1 to 10 September 2026.

The training places particular emphasis on developing a deep artistic understanding of the score, forming a clear and convincing musical vision, and translating musical ideas into expressive, precise, and communicative conducting gestures. A central focus of the masterclass is rehearsal leadership as an artistic and communicative process: how to shape musical expression, refine ensemble sound, and guide a choir towards a convincing interpretation while maintaining an efficient, positive, and motivating rehearsal atmosphere.

The programme reflects the practical challenges encountered in a wide range of ensemble contexts, enabling participants to critically expand their existing rehearsal techniques, deepen their interpretative approaches, and explore strategies for balancing clarity of leadership with musical freedom.

At the end of the training workshop, all participants will take part in the final closing concert, providing an opportunity to apply the skills developed during the programme in a public performance setting.
