About the Programme 

The BERLIN AiR “Mumbai-Berlin - three months”  enables a film professional based in Mumbai, India to live in Berlin for three months to develop a new project(s) and skills, and learn about the film industry in Berlin. The stay must be terminated within 2026. The preferred time to travel to Berlin is September to November. Once back, they will present their work at the Goethe-Institut Mumbai.

Selected candidates will have the opportunity to work with a script consultant, if desired, and gain insight into the Berlin film production landscape and meet producers and professionals, in accordance with their profile.

The programme covers the following costs:
  • Travel: The programme covers one return ticket to Berlin (Mumbai-Berlin-Mumbai)
  • Housing: Selected candidate will have to arrange their own stay. They will be provided € 1.200 per month as rent. If needed, NIPKOW can assist in looking for suitable accommodation.
  • Allowance: The candidate will receive an allowance of Euros 1.200,00 (Twelve Hundred Euros) per month – (in addition to the rent mentioned above)

Eligibility
  • Film professionals based and working in Mumbai (primarily directors and scriptwriters) with a proven professional background in film and television.
  • Citizens of India
  • Applicants must have completed or worked on at least one film of a minimum of 30 min. in any genre or format
  • The completed film must have been supported by a film fund, a professionally recognized body or organisation, or have been commissioned by a broadcaster
- OR -
  • The film must have won local and international recognition, acclaim and prizes

Deadline & Announcement

The deadline for applications is February 28, 2026. The candidate will be selected by the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the Goethe Institut Mumbai. The residency is organised in Berlin by the NIPKOW PROGRAMM. Please note: Applications must be submitted in English

  • A statement explaining why you want to be an artist-in-residence in Berlin (PDF. Maximum 1 A4 page)
  • CV (PDF)
  • A written description and concept of the project (if applicable):  treatment / synopsis or written presentation (PDF. maximum 5 A4 pages)
  • An example of previous work (1 Vimeo-link or equivalent). Please share the password in case the link is password protected.
The deadline for applications is February 28, 2026. The candidate will be selected by the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the Goethe Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, Mumbai.
