„Vor der Morgenröte“ (“Before Dawn“) shows excerpts from the life of Stefan Zweig. After embarking on an early career as a writer, Zweig quickly gained a reputation as a Jewish intellectual. He left his Austrian homeland at the height of his literary career, when the Nazis took power in Germany. The political situation in Germany was a source of relentless torment for Zweig and he became extremely melancholic and depressed. The extent of his despair becomes evident when he takes his life in Brasil in 1942.
