A new and innovative summer camp
The aim of the camp is to give children and young people a sound insight into the world of programming and at the same time teach them the German language. The main focus is on teaching programming basics, the fundamentals of the German language, how to use the systems and the block-based development of effective problem-solving strategies.
Through a balanced mix of theoretical concepts, practical projects and simple language teaching, we offer a comprehensive learning experience. Participants have the opportunity to work on real-world applications to consolidate their skills in a hands-on environment.
Teaching language is English, Thai, and German.

Coding Modules
In the first week of the summer camp, students develop a basic understanding of Calliope mini and are familiarized with the user interface of the Open Roberta Lab. In the second week of the camp, participants program and build the LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime kit and develop an understanding of the symbiosis of software and hardware. In both weeks, they will learn how programmed instructions are translated into real actions of the Calliope mini or the “Spike Prime”, respectively.
Students acquire the skills to use basic NEPO blocks in a solid way. They develop an understanding of sequential programming and the basics of control structures. This enables them to create and execute simple programs independently. They also gain the skills to identify and correct errors that occur in their programs.
Participants learn about the variety and functionality of the sensors of the Calliope mini and/or the “Spike Prime”. This enables them to develop programs that actively react to external influences. By creating such interactive applications, they also hone their ability to analyze complex problems and find creative solutions.
Why learn German and programming at the same time?
With this innovative learning program, the Goethe-Institut Thailand is responding to the early digital development in the STEAM sector and promoting the acquisition of the German language. The sustainable offer of integrated language learning is intended to prepare young people for the increasingly global job market or for potential studies in Germany. With the Coding & German learning program, children and young people can take their first steps in German as a foreign language using the Calliope Mini mini-computer and the LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime, while at the same time acquiring a basic understanding of computer science and technology.
The Calliope Mini
The Calliope Mini is a single-board computer that was developed for educational purposes and is used in German schools. The Calliope mini is equipped with various components that can be controlled.
