The literary evening has been running on a yearly basis since 2013 with the cooperation of the German, Swiss and Austrian Embassies. This year’s event offers our readers an enjoyable, thrilling evening of crime fiction. Award-winning authors Franz Dobler and Michael Theurillat read from their latest novels and offer an insight into the genre of crime fiction. The discussion will be presented by Dr. Antje Streit (DAAD/ Chulalongkorn University) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Korakoch Attaviriyanupap (Silpakorn University).

Nobody is able to say what exactly happened that evening when a teenage boy was shot. Was it self-defence? Where is the weapon? And why can no-one remember anything about it? Fallner needs to get away from Munich. Haunted by the thoughts of the dead boy, he attempts to flee his conscience by embarking on a train journey through Germany.

© Ralf Illing Franz Dobler was born in Schongau in 1959 and lives in Augsburg. His very first crime fiction novel, “A Cop on the Train“, was awarded the German Crime Fiction Prize in 2015. The sequel to this title “Ein Schlag ins Gesicht” (A Slap in the Face) will be published in September, 2016 by Klett Cotta.

In addition to writing novels and poetry - which gained him awards such as the Bavarian Literary Prize - Franz Dobler has also published short stories and music books. He has produced several musical compilations and is also a disc jockey.

The remains of a woman are found in an isolated piece of forest near the river Sihl. The body had been burned according to old Indian rituals. Traces of edelweiss were found. Inspector Eschenbach is baffled. His investigations lead him to Zug and a business undertaking, which trades internationally in raw materials. But additional evidence also takes him to Muotathal, one of the most remote areas of Switzerland. What is the secret linking the two places?

©Michael Theurillat Michael Theurillat, was born in Basel in 1961. He studied economics, history of art and history and pursued a successful career in banking. His novels, featuring inspector Eschenbach, are one of the most popular crime series in Switzerland. In 2012 he was awarded the Friedrich Glauser Prize for his novel Rütlischwur. Michael Theurillat lives with his family near Zurich.
