Astrid (Julia Jentsch) is a passionate cabaret artist. Markus (Bjarne Mädel), her manager is her very supportive husband. They have a 9-year-old daughter and are expecting their second child. When they learn that their baby is very likely to be born with both physical and mental disabilities, they firmly believe that they will be able to cope with the challenge. However, as time goes by, Astrid becomes increasingly worried about what the future might hold for her unborn child and the implications for the rest of her family and her career. She realizes that, ultimately, she is the one who has to make this final decision which will affect all those round about her.
