In extenso - Lieu d'art contemporain off site at TARS Gallery

With the support of the Goethe-Institut Thailand, German artist Raphaela Vogel took part in the group exhibition project, DISTROPICAL ENCOUNTERS. This rather unusual exhibition can be seen at the TARS Gallery in Bangkok until March 31, 2018. Admission is free.

As part of its bi-annual international “Off-site” project, In Extenso presents DISTROPICAL ENCOUNTERS, a residency and exhibition project hosted by TARS Gallery. Several international artists spent two-weeks in Bangkok, exploring the city and its culture. They used the gallery as their studio, where they transformed their personal experiences and impressions of Bangkok into art. The artists‘raw materials were objects or materials they found, bought or exchanged on site. The result of their work is now on show to the public at the TARS Gallery.

This project uses its own context, i. e. the story behind the creation of each piece of work, to make the public reflect on several questions: What has been produced? What kind of external factors and conditions have been of influence in its creation? Which influences have determined its form? How has culture impacted form, representation and elaboration? The exhibition invites the public to question the ephemeral nature of things related to modern times and the related consequences.  At the same time, it highlights the potential that can be unlocked through (cultural) exchange and direct encounter.
