Freshly hatched Maja is a little whirlwind who shows little respect for the rules of the beehive. One of these rules says not to trust the hornets who live in the poppy fields. When the “royal jelly” goes missing, the hornets are the suspected culprits and Maja is considered an accomplice. Only her good-natured friend Willi believes in her innocence. After a very long and eventful journey to the hornets' nest, Maja and Willi finally discover who the real culprit is. They meet the inhabitants of the opulent poppy fields, save the beehive from the Queen's power-obsessed counsellor and end the long feud between the bees and the hornets.
