S.O.E Our city Old Town
Enjoy ten days of Art and Culture in Khon Kaen
To be “solid, original, excellent”, or S.O.E. for short, is the aspiration of Khon Kaen’s old town, one of the Isaan’s cultural hubs. YMD Art Space is launching an art and culture festival with that exact claim and invites visitors to the provincial capital between July 9 – 18, 2021.
The main topic of the programme that includes workshops, exhibitions, film screenings and performances, is urbanisation, community life and integration. The Goethe-Institut Thailand supports S.O.E. Khon Kaen with a selection of four films, among them “Auslandstournee” (2000) by Ayse Polat. In this road movie, we follow an 11 year-old girl that partners with a gay nightclub singer to look for his mother. Their journey leads them away from Germany to France, then Turkey and back. Critics hail the film as an “effective medicine against the malignant prejudices of our time” – making it coincide with the festivals theme.
YMD Art Space was founded in 2017 and is looking to be an open space for local and international artists.
