Imagination, thought, knowledge and even the secrets of humankind have been unleashed for thousands of years on little thin sheets. That’s the magic of paper. This third edition of the Bangkok Book Festival (BBF2021) aims to showcase the extraordinary charm of paper, to spark inspiration by promoting the reading and printing culture through various activities.
The Goethe-Institut Thailand is once again the main partner of the Festival, which took place online in July. Due to Covid-19, three physical programmes have been postponed to December 2021. Together with the festival’s team, we are pleased to invite you to visit “Book Zoo Exhibition” and the outdoor “Movie Nights”.
For the sake of safety and health, we follow the guidelines for Covid-19 prevention, which include wearing a mask, a limited number of visitors as well as social-distancing.

The exhibition “Book Zoo” will invite people into the book circle, from those working in the print industry at the inception of books to younger audiences. To explore the art of paper, books and prints in various formats, the exhibition is divided into three parts: Bookbinding, Sizing and Special Printing. Through the illustration of different design processes, visitors learn how paper can change its status, characteristics, and roles. The diversity of the displayed publications as well as examples of delicate craftsmanship will shed a light on the value of paper for humanity as a powerful tool for sharing knowledge, and will make visitors appreciate every page they turn.

Outdoor Movie Nights
Nothing is better than enjoying a movie night in December when the weather in Bangkok is cooling down. With support from the Embassy of Portugal in Thailand, we are excited to host two films screening on 14 and 15 December 2021. The screenings are exclusive events for only 20 guests. This year, as a part of the Bangkok Book Festival, dedicated to the “Magic of Paper”, we offer a special selection of films that portray the life of an author and the use of paper as a weapon of thought.Limited seats - pre-registration is required (The seats are fully booked.)
