Goethe meets a contemporary: In December, Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the grand German composers, will be the focus of a piano concert and a film night at the Goethe-Institut Thailand. On 10 December, the pianist Philippe Guilhon-Herbert will perform the popular and challenging “Moonlight Sonata”, Frédéric Chopin’s Waltz in A-flat major and Franz Schubert’s Sonata in A major D 664.
The following day, 11 December, the pianist will accompany the 1927 silent film “Beethoven” that illuminates individual stages of the exceptional composer’ life. At the time, the film was shown in Germany as “Der große Einsame” (“The Great Loner”). The silent film was produced to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Beethoven’s death (26 March 1827). The event language will be French, German and Thai.
