In preparation for Krystian Zimerman's highly anticipated performance on 22 November 2022 at the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, we invite you to get acquainted with the concert matter: Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto.
In a combination of talk and concert, Dr. Akkra Yeunyonghattaporn will introduce you to Beethoven's work, investigating the artist's inspiration in the context of the early 19th century, followed by the ensemble's performance. The aim is to reach yet a new level of appreciation for regular concert guests and broader audiences alike.
As initiated by Carl Czerny, a renowned pupil of Beethoven, the concerto's portrayal of "an antique tragic scene" stirred up the imagination of Beethoven's music enthusiasts throughout the centuries. The Ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice became the favoured unofficial program for the concerto. By accommodating this programmatic approach just seconds before hearing the carefully arranged movements, our ears are all the more receptive to the finest details hidden in this piece while also understanding the personal journey of the artist himself.
Program:
Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major, Op. 58 (for piano and string quintet)
I. Allegro moderato
II. Andante con moto
III. Rondo. Vivace
Performers:
Dr. Akkra Yeunyonghattaporn, speaker and pianist
Chitipat Darapong, violinist
Kanin Udommana, violinist
Omporn Kowintha, violist
Miti Wisuthumporn violist
Wishwin Sureerattanakorn, cellist
This event is a sneak preview for the Musikgespräche-series to be launched in 2023 at the Goethe-Institut Thailand. The format invites Thai music professionals to introduce German classical music in a lecture-based format.
Please note that the talk will be in English.
