Registration The first part of the recital is all about the Piano-Sonata, but we will listen to quite unusual and different sonatas; the beginning will be 4 short and witty pieces by the Italian composer Domenico Scarlatti (1685 - 1750) who is contemporary to Johann Sebastian Bach but completely different, he may be called the inventor of high-end virtuosity on the keyboard. Haydns E-Major Sonata is in three movements and as original and entertaining as Scarlatti. Haydn is often and with good reasons called the father of the Sonata Form. To finish the first part Prof. Glemser chooses the Sonata quasi una Fantasia (Sonata like a Fantasy) “After a lecture of Dante” composed by Franz Liszt. It depicts the ‘inferno’ and the touching love story of Francesca da Rimini from Dantes ‘Divina Comedia’ .

The second Part of the concert celebrates first the 150th birthday of Serge Rachmaninoff. The lovely and melancholique Barcarolle in g-minor and 4 of the most popular Preludes from opus 23 are performed. The recital concludes with two late works of Frédéric Chopin, the most beautiful of all the Nocturnes, the B-major op. 62,1 and as an appropriate final for the whole concert the all-time favorite Polonaise in Ab-Major op. 53 with the notorious left hand octaves. This will conclude the many-sided and entertaining concert at the Goethe-Institut Thailand on the 28th March 2023 at 7 p.m.!
