KulturHub: Getting to know currywurst

At our forthcoming KulturHub event, we will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the publication of Uwe Timm’s novella ‘The Invention of Curried Sausage’. The story is set against the backdrop of Hamburg in the dying days of World War II and describes the invention of currywurst, and so we are inviting the public to join us for a special afternoon devoted to learning more about this iconic German food.

Program

• The afternoon activities will be led by Dr. Nantana Anuntkosol, a lecturer of German language and literature at Chulalongkorn University. She completed her doctorate at the University of Siegen, where her research focused on the works of Uwe Timm so you couldn’t hope for a more knowledgeable guide. She will take you on an enjoyable and spirited journey through the social, historical, and cultural meanings of the different foods described in ‘The Invention of Curried Sausage’, interspersed with regular stops for mouth-watering samplings of the dishes you are hearing described.
• Join in with a German-style grill party, meet new friends, and get better acquainted with the famous curry sauce, courtesy of Espero Cafe (or better yet, try your hand at ordering food in German!)

The first part of the activity will be conducted in Thai, and you are not expected to have any knowledge of German language or literature.
