Looking back in time, our joy as a kid may lie in the excitement of roaming around stationery shops. Those recollections paint a memory of the most treasured pen, pencil or colour box that never fails to make one’s inner child smile. Stationery has been there with us in every moment in life, from the time we received the first crayon set to the colourful highlighters on class lectures to a practical pen, a must-have item at work. Not to mention that erasers, pencil sharpeners, glue sticks, and paper clips are scattered all over the office tables.

Germany has paved the way for stationery production since the 17th century, and was the first country to industrialise the pencil production. It’s almost impossible not to see or own some of the stationery products from Germany.

The second talk from the series Everyday German Design will dive deep into the values of the stationery through an alternative lens, understanding the practical and design values, the collector’s joy and how each item can serve as a memory bearer. Come join our talk and browse through a selected collection from our host Santi Tonsukha and our special guest Hyunkyung Lee who will introduce you to her own collection of vintage German pens. Additionally, selected items of the special collection from Kaweco and Leuchtturm1917 will be brought to display with the support from Good to Great Coporation Co.Ltd.

Share your fond Memories: Storytelling and Exchange (optional)
Participants are encouraged to bring along one stationery item (including bookmark, notebook, pencil case, masking tape, etc.) that you are willing to trade with one another. You will be asked to write a story on a small note, telling what memory each item holds. All will be displayed and everyone will get to draw a card. Whichever name appears will determine the next caretaker of each item.

Special Guest
Hyunkyung Lee, a graphic designer and stationery enthusiast who loves to take notes on paper and enjoys exploring stationery shops in various countries. Her passion was portrayed into her first published book titled ร้านเครื่องเขียนไทย – Thailand Stationery (Sojanggak Publishing, 2023), which the Thai translation will be available by the end of this year. She is also a speaker and visiting lecturer who is intrigued by the forms and graphics of Asian scripts, e.g. Korean, Thai, Khmer, Lao, Traditional Chinese and Japanese. Before settling in Thailand six years ago, she had lived and worked in Korea and Japan.
