The concert by TYOY brings together cultures and features artists from various backgrounds. The artists will collaborate to create a unique performance that combines sound, movement, and visuals shaped by their shared imagination.

It is a journey and exploration of the possibilities of sonic art—blending Northeastern folk music, classical instruments, modular synthesizers, interactive movement and dance, and visual art. Presented by the TYOY ensemble, featuring guest composers/performers: Minami Takei (percussion/Japan), Dirk Johan Stromberg (fryprone/USA) from LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore, Teerus Laohverapanich (saxophone) from Conservatory of Music, Rangsit University, Phakphoom Tiavongsuvan (e-guitar) from College of Music, Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University, Pakhamon Hemachandra and Napasorn Setasartit (choreography).

The audience will experience a range of performances, including improvisations and new compositions.

About the Artists

TYOY is a collective of contemporary composers, artists and organizers dedicated to a wide range of art, music, dance, painting and visual art. Founded in 2017, the collective is made up of classical composers/performers and traditional Thai musicians. In 2019, experimental/electronic musicians, contemporary dancers and painters joined the collective. TYOY has also been organizing music/art events since 2018, continuously integrating and developing concepts. Members of TYOY  have been invited to perform at numerous festivals and events in Thailand and abroad such as the Music Research in Singapore Symposium 2024, IntAct Festival, PGVIM International Symposium, Thailand International Composition Festival (TICF) and Bangkok Design Week as well as BEAST FEaST 2025, United Kingdom.

  • Chatchur Chursombul, known as Tonkla, is a Thai musician and sound engineer passionate about blending traditional and contemporary music. Born in Nakhon Pathom, he began playing the phin and khaen at age five, inspired by the sounds of Northeastern Thailand. He studied under master Ajarn Khamao and later majored in ranad ek at the College of Dramatic Arts. He earned a degree in Music Technology from Mahidol University, with phin as his main instrument. Tonkla is a member of the band Khamvisedth and founder of Tonka Studio, where he composes, produces, and engineers music that fuses Thai roots with jazz and world music. In this performance, he showcases the expressive power of phin and khaen through a modern lens.

  • Matas Masungsong (b. 1992) is a Thai musician and educator with degrees in Music Education from Chulalongkorn University. He has contributed as a Thai drummer and percussionist to major projects such as Thai Cave Rescue, Hurt Like Hell (Netflix), Lee Sin Champion (Riot Games, USA), and Sangara (West One Music, UK). He is the music director of theSound of Thailand project by illements.com (EUR). Matas has volunteered teaching Thai music and culture in New York and performed Thai drums at the 2024 World Music Festival in Gwangju, South Korea. He is a member of the bands Khamvisedth and Seathencity, and actively promotes Thai music education through an online learning app. Currently, he teaches at Bangkok Christian College, inspiring the next generation of musicians.

  • Ittikorn Tuchmalee (b. 2000) is a cellist from Hua Hin, Thailand. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Classical Cello from Rangsit University, where he honed his skills in both solo and ensemble performance. Ittikorn has performed with renowned orchestras such as Promusica Junior, Silpakorn Summer Music School, Siam Sinfonietta, and the Rangsit University Symphony Orchestra. These experiences have shaped his versatility and collaborative spirit. Currently, he is a member of TYOY, where he continues to explore new musical directions and contribute to the contemporary music scene.

  • In his artistic practice Roman Solodkov works with a wide range of digital media and interactive installations, searching for alternative forms of agency, access and embodiment in interaction with the digital, algorithmic and the abstract. His aesthetic revolves around mutating strict diagrammatic elements into campy artifacts, queering the interfaces and reimagining digital phenomena as part of a material culture. Currently, he works with many talented artists, including the TYOY Ensemble.
     

  • Worawan Worachat is a traditional and northern folk Thai musician who is interested in experimental sounds. In addition, he is also talented in all Thai woodwind instruments. Moreover, Worawan is a composer for various Thai dance performances as well.

  • Sukrit Chomsawat is a contemporary drummer who is interested in various styles of music. He likes groove, improvisation and playing music to convey emotions and various atmospheres, combining new ways with his unique style. Not blocking new approaches to playing, both in terms of himself and in developing further work with others. He is currently the drummer for the "Govinda Bhasya", and "Castaway" as well as TYOY Ensemble.
     

  • Mahakit Mahaniranon is a Thai composer-performer who plays piano and modular synthesizer. His multifaceted practice combines performance, composition, improvisation, sound of traditional Thai music and electroacoustic elements into an eclectic, individual musical expression. Various ensembles have included his compositions in their repertoire and they are being performed continuously, e.g. Tacet(i) Ensemble, Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music Youth Orchestra (PYO), Million Wind Philharmonic and TYOY Ensemble. His works have also been performed abroad, including in Singapore, Malaysia, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. Throughout the years of his artistic and musical creations, he has received many sponsorship and grant opportunities from organizations such as Office of Contemporary Art and Culture under the Ministry of Culture, Thailand including The Goethe-Institut Thailand, Siam Modular and international companies such as Arturia music company based in Grenoble, France.
     

  • Minami Takei, born in Yamanashi, Japan, is an emerging percussionist with international experience in Japan, Thailand, and beyond. She teaches percussion and piano to children across countries and has earned accolades such as second place in timpani and finalist in snare drum at the 17th PAS International Percussion Competition in Italy. From 2020 to 2023, she served as principal timpanist of the Teatro Giglio Showa Orchestra, performing in operas, ballets, and concerts. She gave her first solo recital in December 2020 and toured with the Asia Youth Orchestra in 2024. A scholarship graduate of Showa University of Music, Minami studied under esteemed mentors including Professors Toshiaki Ishiuchi and Atsushi Sugawara. Her work spans jazz, improvisation, and contemporary music, reflecting her commitment to expanding the artistic possibilities of percussion.

  • Assoc. Prof. Teerus Laohverapanich, D.F.A.
    He is a full-time professor of Conservatory of Music, Rangsit University. Teerus admires music in every style. He is a member of Denny and Friends (Contemporary Jazz), Trisara (Free Improvisation), and T-Bone (Ska-Reggae). Teerus has performed in major music festivals, such as Glastonbury (England), Mosaic Music Festival (Singapore), Taichung Jazz Festival (Taiwan), Freespace JazzFest (Hong Kong), Huahin Jazz Festival, Thailand International Jazz Conference, etc. Nowadays, he is still studying, developing and teaching playing methods including the desire to make his saxophone voice become one with every music style.
     

  • Dirk Johan Stromberg is a multidisciplinary artist blending improvisation, instrument design, and live production. Starting as a jazz and blues guitarist, he shifted toward free improvisation, inspired by artists like Evan Parker and Peter Brötzmann. He creates custom instruments—such as the Fryprone, Strombophone, and Phallophone—that merge intuitive design with sonic experimentation. His performances use immersive technologies like ambisonics, L-ISA, and d&b Soundscape.

    Projects like Images of Ascension and Telepaesants integrate sound, visuals, and telepresence, and have toured internationally. His recordings include Borderless Field and Primitive Touch, with appearances at festivals such as SIFA and Moers. As a Senior Lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore, he mentors students in interdisciplinary performance and production, drawing on his background in experimental music, telematic art, and media technology.

  • Asst. Prof. Phakphoom Tiavongsuvan is a guitarist and music lecturer involved in the Bangkok underground music scene. He is Head of the Popular Music Department at the College of Music, Rajabhat Bansomdejchaopraya University. In 2012, he earned his first degree in music entertainment from the College of Music at Mahidol University in Bangkok, and in 2014, he finished a master's degree in music performance from the University of Southampton. Common Books published his first book in Thai, Music Criticism, in 2022.

  • Pakhamon Hemachandra (Much) is a Thai independent dance artist, movement educator, and founder of Movenbodies. She holds a BA in Dance from the Victorian College of the Arts (Australia) and an MA in Contemporary Dance Performance from London Contemporary Dance School (UK). Based in Thailand since 2015, she has worked as a performer, collaborator, and choreographer on local and international platforms. Passionate about teaching, her practice explores somatic awareness, body–mind connection, and movement as a means of deepening physical understanding and creative expression.
     

  • Napasorn Setasartit is a Thai dance artist based in Bangkok. She began her journey in classical ballet before expanding into contemporary dance, developing a movement language that blends emotional depth with visual storytelling. She works as a freelance performer and collaborator, with a practice that spans stage performance, interdisciplinary collaboration, and movement-based work.
