KinoFest 2025
Film Screening|Goethe-Institut's annual festival celebrating contemporary German cinema
- Language German with English and Thai subtitles
KinoFest is the Goethe-Institut's annual festival celebrating contemporary German cinema in Southeast Asia. This year, the festival will travel to seven cities in Thailand, featuring outdoor screenings at select venues.
Under the theme 'Family: Extended', this year’s programme explores the evolving concept of family in today’s world. Moving beyond traditional notions, the films present family as fluid and shaped by labour, care, history, and emotion. They explore diverse aspects: motherhood as both strength and anxiety, the often-unseen realm of care work, and hidden familial tensions. This year’s selection challenges audiences to rethink family not as a fixed ideal, but as a space of complexity, contradiction, and transformation, spanning across different genres: intimate drama, adventure, animation, comedy, thriller, action, and documentary.
Get ready to explore this cinematic map of evolving and diverse ideas of what family can be through different flavours of films. The highlights from this year´s KinoFest include Greeting from Mars (Grüße vom Mars), a journey of a boy who turns the countryside into an intergenerational odyssey of discovery as he views his stay with his grandparents as a trial mission to Mars, and Two to One (Zwei zu Eins), a satire-comedy story about three friends who turn lost currency into opportunity amidst of transformation as East Germany ceased to exist.
KinoFest 2025 in Thailand will take place from 9-21 December 2025, in Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, Phayao, Phitsanulok, and Nakhon Ratchasima.
