For the first time in Bangkok, Trio Abstrakt, renowned for their adventurous sound and refined virtuosity in chamber music, presents a programme with pieces by French composer Brice Pauset and Greek composer Georges Aperghis. This programme highlights a striking contrast in compositional styles: Pauset’s music emphasises structural clarity and a reflective, controlled approach, while Aperghis’s works are characterised by grotesque humour and theatricality.

Creating an important space for younger voices, the concert also presents compositions by Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music (PGVIM) students, developed in collaboration with Trio Abstrakt over the past days, alongside improvisational pieces created in a workshop context.

Programme

1. Miniatures of student compositions
2. Brice Pauset's “Adagio Diallettico”
3. Georges Aperghis’ “Trio Funambule”
4. Free Improvisation

Trio Abstrakt will also perform at the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music (PGVIM). The showcase “Michael’s Pieces or Tape Pieces,” featuring interludes from Michael Edward’s electronic works, will be presented on Saturday, 28 March 2026 at 8:00 PM.

Michael Edward's work, titled “in competence: algorithms”, uses algorithmic composition, Ambisonics, and image‑to‑sound processes shaped by Shakespeare's “Richard II” recording. Built from snippets, hocketing, and layered rhythms, it merges structured timing with experimental sound design. Read more about “in competence: algorithms” via this link: link.

About Trio Abstrakt

Trio Abstrakt is a love letter to new chamber music. The ensemble has devoted itself to the utmost precision and dedication to demanding contemporary chamber music from the last three decades. As the creative home of musicians Salim(a) Javaid (saxophone), Marlies Debacker (piano), and Alexandre Ferreira Silva (percussion), the trio combines chamber music tradition with a continuous engagement with the present.

The ensemble aims to bring "music of today" to life, relying on a non-hierarchical collaboration with composers. In this collaborative process, extensive new works emerge that explore the sonic possibilities of modern chamber music performance. In this context, the trio has also developed new concert formats such as confluences and spotlight.

Composers such as Isabel Mundry, Franck Bedrossian, Alberto Posadas, Milica Djordjević and Giorgio Netti have written works for Trio Abstrakt. The instrumentation of saxophone, piano, and percussion allows the ensemble to dive into various musical styles while integrating influences from improvisational, electronic, classical, as well as jazz music.

Trio Abstrakt performs at festivals and international organisations of contemporary music, including Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik, Milano Musica, Acht Brücken Köln, Wiener Konzerthaus, Biennale di Venezia, NOW! Festival / Philharmonie Essen, Musica Strasbourg, Transit Festival Leuven, Mozartfest Würzburg, CNDM Madrid, ZKM Karlsruhe, March Music Days Ruse, and WDR Funkhaus.
