The Remnants
The programme begins with Harun Farocki’s essay film “Images of the World and the Inscription of War” (1988 / 75 min), which examines the process of visual perception and its effects on social perception, as well as what may be obscured within the stream of history.
It then turns to the place of ideology and the memories that remain among people after the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as the clash between the imagined and the realities of capitalist and communist worlds, in Wolfgang Becker’s acclaimed Goodbye, Lenin! (2003 / 121 min).
Finally, the programme returns to the lingering feelings and relationships beneath the invisible boundaries of the present through Angela Schanelec’s The Dreamed Path (2016 / 86 min), whose work often explores the relationship between personal identities and periods of transition.
