Photo Exhibition Light and Shadow

Exhibition about films of the Weimar Republic

During the 4th Silent Film Festival in Thailand, the exhibition “Light and Shadows” will be displayed by the Goethe-Institut Thailand. The exhibition tells the interesting story of one century UFA film history. The exhibition can be seen in the halls of the Scala Theater from June 8-14, 2017. (free admission)

The exhibition "Light and Shadow: Films of the Weimar Republic" is a photographic journey situated within an especially creative phase of German film history. The aftershock of World War I, the fragility of the young democracy, the absurdly rapid tempo of the new era, the harsh realities of daily life, but also the negative utopia of an uncertain future – all such aspects were conveyed artistically in German feature films prior to  1933 and were thereafter passed on to subsequent generations.

The exhibition "Light and Shadow" is not only dedicated to the most important films of the Weimar Republic. It is also an homage to the art of film photography. On display at the exhibition are 50 photo reproductions from the archives of the German Film Archives.
