As Allied forces approach Paris in August 1944, Hitler orders the city’s destruction. With explosives already placed across its landmarks, General Dietrich von Choltitz prepares to carry out the command until Swedish consul Raoul Nordling intervenes. What follows is a tense overnight confrontation, as Nordling tries to persuade him to spare the “City of Lights.”
A gripping chamber drama adapted from Cyril Gély’s play, the film explores duty, resistance, and the power of dialogue through outstanding performances by André Dussollier and Niels Arestrup.
Director: Volker Schlöndorff
Germany and France, 2014
DCP, 85min
