Every Body in Motion
Inclusive Festival of Theatre and Performing Arts
"Every Body in Motion" is a festival of theatre and performing arts organised by the European Union National Institutes for Culture in Vietnam (EUNIC Vietnam), under the artistic direction of Ơ Kìa Hà Nội and coordinated by Goethe-Institut Hanoi and Britsh Council Vietnam together with EUNIC member organisations.
The festival seeks, supports, and creates performance opportunities for individuals and groups practising theatre and performing arts in Vietnam - those who place diversity and inclusion at the centre of their practice.
The "Every Body in Motion Festival" strives to be a bridge that transforms theatre in particular and the arts in general into spaces of creation and enjoyment for the widest possible range of artists and audiences. Over the course of six days, disabled and non-disabled artists from Vietnam, Austria, Italy, Germany, South Korea and the United Kingdom will together present the different possibilities of the stage when we place the spirit of diversity and inclusion at its centre.
From classic European theatrical works being staged through a contemporary lens, to original contemporary works spanning genres such as dance, music, opera and drama, the festival highlights the creative contributions of disabled and non-disabled artists working across diverse artistic forms and disciplines. In doing so, the festival seeks not only to advance conversations about accessibility in the arts, but also to explore how disability perspectives can open up the ways we shape aesthetics in art and theatre, and invite participants to engage with works from perspectives that are often overlooked or marginalized within predominantly non-disabled cultural frameworks.
At the "Every Body in Motion Festival", audiences will find themselves wandering through mysterious and fantastical realms, at once familiar and strange, in classic works such as Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Maurice Maeterlinck's The Blind. Stepping into contemporary life, audiences will encounter Lắng Nghe Điểm Chạm — a work premiering for the first time before Hanoi audiences - before arriving at the performance “Bến Tằm”, a place "you come to when you carry within you a debt of fate that must be settled." Alongside these, contemporary tales of the quest for Wonders in the work of the same name, and reflections on identity, belonging and the borders that divide us - told through the musical language of artist Wonhee Shin - will leave audiences deeply moved.
Additional programmes including film screenings, panel discussions, and especially workshops and performances by European artists will take place throughout the week - together forming a multidimensional dialogue on inclusive theatre and performance.
Every Body in Motion is a week-long theatre and performing arts festival initiated by the European Union National Institutes for Culture in Vietnam (EUNIC Vietnam), co-produced by Ơ Kìa Hà Nội. The programme is jointly coordinated by Goethe-Institut Hanoi, the British Council in Vietnam, and other EUNIC member organizations.
