Artistic training on using puppets to illustrate literary works

The four-week program  within June 2021 will provide all necessary skills to form a community puppet troupe  in connection to activities in conservation and development of cultural heritage for sustainable development in Vietnam, especially in the southern region.

This training project is aimed to leverage the capacity of local puppeteers and storytellers through  a good impact on local network of community puppet troupes which may utilize puppetry  arts for STEAM- based education, emotional education and creative education.
 
After the funding is over, the project will have  created foundation for at least two community puppet troupes that are available to collaborate with related partners and practitioners to conduct research and performance to help resolve social issues through  the means of arts.
 
For example, the integration of literary works in the form of puppet opera linked to community tourism or other activities in conservation and development of cultural heritage and sustainable development in Vietnam, especially in the southern region. Other examples are the use of puppets on STEAM-based approach for inter-disciplinary cooperation linked to social sciences and humanities (language teaching, extra-curricular education, therapy, community media…).

Phan Tuấn Quốc (Nemo or Phan-Dương Thiện-Duyên (pen name)) is the founder of Mekongaholics working on mobilizing community culture for sustainable development and social progress.

Phan Tuấn Quốc has 15+ years of experience as a practitioner of translation and co-founded of a university-based career orientation program for young colleagues in translation since 2010, at the same time the first researcher on lyrical translation, interactive storytelling with puppets and cheerleading arts as tools for sustainable development and social progress.

Phan Tuấn Quốc has been working as a Puppeteer and Storyteller at Mekongaholics. (Apr 2011-present, Vietnam, Southeast Asia & Taiwan)

Through Mekongaholics, he founded the Peace Arts Exchange Project
focusing on facilitation of performances, instructions, workshops and the use of interactive storytelling with puppets in local activities of creative education and community development in Vietnam and Southeast Asia since 2012.
