How to write a column

How do you turn the ideas in your head into a column article? How do you find a topic, develop it, and finalize it? How do you create a unique voice so that readers can recognize your personal touch in the writing? The Writing Workshop with Eva Eikhout will provide you with the basic skills to develop a compelling article or column. After the theoretical part, in the workshop's practical session, participants will develop their ideas into a short piece of writing. Then, we will discuss the drafts and give feedback to each other.

Requirements:
This workshop is suitable for young writers who wish to acquire skills to write articles for columns in newspapers, magazines, or on social media.

Participants are required to write during the workshop and be ready to present their work and exchange ideas with other young writers. The workshop is for young Vietnamese writers who wish to write in either Vietnamese or English.

The workshop will be facilitated by critic Quyen Nguyễn and is completely FREE. Refreshments and light snacks will be provided during the workshop.

Location: Goethe-Institut Library, 56-58-60 Nguyễn Thái Học, Ba Dinh, Hanoi

Languages: English and Vietnamese (with simultaneous interpretation)

Instructor Information:

About the instructor:
  Eva Eikhout is a program producer and presenter from the Netherlands, working for the media organization BNNVARA. She is also an event coordinator and an inspiring speaker. She gave TEDxTalks in 2016 and 2023 and has extensive experience coordinating events organized by companies, ministries, cities, RadboudUMC Medical Center, and Rabobank Rijk van Nijmegen. In the spring of 2024, her debut work, This Is Not a Book by a Girl Without Arms & Legs, will be published. Eva writes weekly columns for several magazines/apps/social media in the Netherlands and has also been a guest editor.
