Dareen Abbas, born 1989, grew up and lived in Damascus. She is a Syrian artist living and working in Belgium now. Abbas’ practice is concerned with archetypal imagery and how it can be reworked and transmitted to sculpture, video and drawing. Major part of her practice revolves around the question of how sculpture can be done in a cinematic approach, taking place on the borders between scenography and sculpture.
She studied sculpture and performance in Belgium at ERG (school of graphic research) and received her MA in 2015, since then she had participated in various exhibitions and residencies such as Taipei Bienial 2016 and WIELS residency program in Belgium.
