As part of the first Brussels Multilingualism Week, the Goethe-Institut Brussels invites you to explore the EU quarter in a different way: interactive, multilingual, and right in the middle of the urban space where Europe’s linguistic diversity is lived every day.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The route leads through the heart of the EU quarter and combines urban exploration with linguistic discovery. At selected stations, participants solve tasks, riddles, and questions relating to:
  • Europe’s multilingualism,
  • everyday life in an international political centre,
  • language as a key to participation, communication, and identity.
The rally can be completed individually or in teams and is suitable for school classes as well as for individuals, students, or anyone interested in languages.

WHY AS PART OF THE MULTILINGUALISM WEEK?

Brussels Multilingualism Week highlights how multilingualism shapes public space – and this is exactly where the urban rally begins. The EU quarter becomes a learning and experience space where languages are not abstract but tangible, site‑specific, and immersive.

Process of the Rally during Brussels Multilingualism Week

  • Start at the Goethe-Institut Brussels at fixed times: Meeting point is the Goethe-Institut Brussels at 11:00 or 14:00 (Monday–Thursday). These fixed start times make it easy to integrate the rally into your visit or weekly schedule in Brussels.
  • Introduction and technical information: At the beginning, participants receive a brief introduction at the Institute as well as an explanation of the rally procedure and how to use the app.
  • City rally through the EU quarter: In small groups or as a class, participants embark on a multilingual discovery tour through the EU quarter. The rally is carried out independently by the groups; the Goethe-Institut only provides the introduction.

HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE?

Participants only need:
  • a smartphone or tablet
  • language skills from A2 level (DE | EN | FR | NL)
  • (no specific level is required if participating in your native language)
German teachers receive an accompanying booklet containing:
  • all tasks and solutions,
  • background information on the stations,
  • didactic ideas for further work in class.
