PERSPEKTIVEN – Berlinale Forum, DOK Leipzig, Duisburger Filmwoche

In its film series PERSPEKTIVEN – Berlinale Forum, DOK Leipzig, Duisburger Filmwoche, the Goethe-Institut Brussels, BOZAR Cinema and Le P’tit Ciné present a selection of films from major German film festivals: the Internationales Forum des Jungen Films, a highly experimental section of the Berlinale, DOK Leipzig, which shows documentary and animated films and does not shy away from taking up political positions, and the Duisburger Filmwoche, which is dedicated to German-language documentaries and focuses on intensive, self-reflective exploration of the possibilities and limitations of documentary filmmaking. Find out about the profile of the individual festivals by watching the Belgian premieres of outstanding films. This year we are presenting a selection of four films from the programme of the Berlinale Forum 2021, as well as a specially selected film from both DOK Leipzig 2020 and Duisburger Filmwoche 2020. The festival organisers and filmmakers will be present at the screenings and available for question-and-answer sessions.

BERLINALE FORUM:
Avantgarde, experimental, essays, long-term observations, political reportage and little-known cinematography: the Berlinale Forum is the section of the Berlinale most inclined to take risks and reflects new trends in world cinema and use innovative forms of narrative. There are few formal restrictions on the selection of films, providing greater freedom. The forum’s films are at the juncture where art and cinema converge. The Berlinale Forum is an event organised by the Arsenal – Institut für Film und Videokunst as part of the Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin.

DOK LEIPZIG:
DOK Leipzig is an international festival for documentary and animated films – a unique combination of these two genres. The festival is held annually and looks back on an over 60-year history. DOK Leipzig promotes talented young filmmakers regardless of their gender or background. New boundaries of film are explored, not least in the DOK Neuland section, which features virtual and augmented reality, games, 360° films and media art.

DUIBURGER FILMWOCHE:
The festival for documentary films from Germany, Austria and Switzerland shows outstanding documentaries and brings together filmmakers to take part in lively debate.  The festival invites guests to experience aesthetic and political practices of documentary filmmaking and to engage in discussions.

PERSPEKTIVEN – Berlinale Forum, DOK Leipzig, Duisburger Filmwoche“ is an initiative by Goethe-Institut Brussels and BOZAR FILMS, programmed with Le p'tit ciné asbl, in cooperation with the Berlinale Forum, Arsenal – Institute for Film und Video Art, DOK Leipzig and Duisburger Filmwoche. The series is kindly supported by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe.
