While the refugees living in Marseille are persecuted by the fascist authorities, the German Georg feels that danger is waiting for him behind every corner. When he comes across the writer Weidel, who killed himself to escape the persecution, he steals his papers in an attempt to flee to America. But how can he flee and take all the people he loves with him?
