For the 12th Korean Film Festival Canada, Arts East-West (AEW) presents an immersive exhibition featuring acclaimed Korean filmmaker Gina Kim (@gina_kim_films) and Montréal-based writer Crystal Chan (@crystalcsk), who reshape how we understand trauma, identity, and the body in motion through VR and soundscape experiences.
Presented in partnership with Goethe-Institut Montréal and Ada X :
Gina Kim’s Comfortless Trilogy — Bloodless (2017), Tearless (2021), and Comfortless (2023) — invites audiences into the hidden history of women in US military camp towns in Korea. Through powerful VR storytelling, she gives voice to lives erased by imperialism and violence. Internationally awarded and showcased around the world, these films are raw, haunting, and urgent.
Crystal Chan’s Eighty Thousand Steps (2023) is an interactive audio journey exploring memory, family, and migration through the real experiences of Asian-Canadians reconnecting with their cross-border identities.
