Berlin, summer. Valerie has just moved into a new shared apartment in Tiergarten. Now she is sitting in a café with her best friend Sophie. It is a kind of farewell meeting, because Sophie is about to leave for Rome for six months for work.

Over a period of six months, the film follows the quiet Valerie, who observes her surroundings closely, through her everyday, "slow life." She falls in love with her roommate Marie's brother, witnesses Marie's relationship crisis when she becomes pregnant again, much to her boyfriend's annoyance, and has to learn to cope with her father's illness and death.
