A bleak Berlin housing estate, early winter. Mimmi sleeps with her driving instructor, makes a sandwich, dances with a friend at the edge of a swimming pool, argues with her overwhelmed mother... In laconic images and mostly long shots, director Schanalec shows scenes from the everyday life of an introverted Berlin schoolgirl shortly before her high school graduation, without offering any explanations. On a class trip to Paris, she meets a man and spends a night with him. When she returns home, she discovers that she is pregnant with his child. She travels to Paris again, but cannot find him.
