Goethe-Institut Montreal

Concept: Cyril Baldy + Tilman O'Donnell

After a two-month residency in the fall of 2014 at Circuit-Est centre chorégraphique as part of an agreement between the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Goethe-Institut and fabric Potsdam – Internationales Zentrum für Tanz und Bewegungskunst, Cyril Baldy and Tilman O’Donnell are continuing their research this summer. Montreal artists Hanako Hoshimi-Caines, Adam Kinner, Dana Michel and Jacob Wren are invited as guests in the final phase of work to share challenge, and present their own or synthesized works in the context of Whatereverness Singularities on September 8, 9 and 10 at the Goethe-Institut.

Both choreographers/dancers quote John Kelsey to summarize their approach: But the practices that interest us now are those that embrace the condition of whateverness itself as an experimental possibility. There are moments when the only way to make something happen is to become a stranger in one’s own studio, in the very act of producing and in the face of our own products… [ ]… which is to say that the “artists life”, if we could still call it that, is an attempt to elaborate a constant and precise relation to non-specificity, and to invent new and specific ways of presenting this.
