Exhibition
Michel Boulanger (Montréal) and Katja Davar (Cologne, Germany) share a common interest in the tracks left by human processing of the earth, having thus made landscape transformation a key theme in their discussion. Working predominantly in the expanded field of drawing, both Boulanger and Davar investigate the increasing interconnections of human culture, natural environments and technology.
These Rooms of Earth and Stones combines the visible changes of the horizontal landscape profile with an artistic exploration of the subterranean vertical sedimentary layers, juxtaposing soil and subsoil. This exhibition seeks, through a variety of mediums, to show how we are in a dynamic and permanent (re)negotiation with our environment. It furthermore serves as a cultural exchange between an artist from Québec and a curator and an artist from Germany who have been developing this project collaboratively over some time.
