The Toronto Jewish Film Festival 2022 will feature three new German and Austrian (co-)productions. The Goethe-Institut is pleased to co-present:
 
Chess Story by Philipp Stölzl (Germany/Austria, 2021, 112 min)
When Nazi troops march into Vienna, Josef Bartok is arrested by the Gestapo and thrown into solitary confinement. He is psychologically tormented for months until he steals an old book about chess that sets him on a course that overcomes his mental suffering. Starring Oliver Masucci (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore), and based on the Stefan Zweig novella.

Who's Afraid of Jewish Humor by Jascha Hannover (Germany, 2021, 71 min)
Award-winning director Hannover travels to Germany, Israel, France and the U.S. to explore the complex subject of Jewish humour through a variety of perspectives, ranging from Jewish history and culture to the Torah and psychoanalysis.

Wet Dog by Damir Lukacevic (Germany, 2021, 103 min)
Teenage Solheil joins a local gang in his predominantly Muslim neighbourhood of Berlin, becoming known as a graffiti artist. In order to gain their acceptance, he hides his Jewish origins until their plan to rob his parents’ jewellery store forces him to decide where his loyalties lie.
