TJFF & the Goethe-Institut Toronto co-present The Glory of Life
Based on Michael Kumpfmüller’s bestselling novel, this romantic period drama follows the final year in the life of Franz Kafka and his love affair with Dora Diamant. Set in 1923 on the Baltic Sea coast, the film reimagines Kafka not as the tormented writer of popular myth, but as a man rediscovering joy and intimacy. Battling tuberculosis and seeking freedom from his overbearing family in Prague, Kafka finds solace in Dora—a young Polish Zionist who helps him reconnect with his Jewish roots. Directors Georg Maas and Judith Kaufmann offer a luminous, tender portrait of a man briefly touched by happiness before his premature death.
