Organized by the Goethe-Institut Toronto and the University of Victoria, Department of German. With special thanks to the Consulate General of Germany, Vancouver and Natascha Daiminger.

Better prospects for success in studies and employment - learning German can be a huge advantage to your curriculum. At UVic’s Career Booster German(y) event, students will discover the advantages of learning German and considering Germany as a location for professional development. We will present cutting-edge business leaders and researchers, followed by a panel discussion that brings to light opportunities for German in Canada. Not only will they be presenting how German helped them to get where they are, but you will also learn more about possiblities to learn German and go to Germany to work or study.

Dr. Reiner Kruecken, TRIUMF (Canada's national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics and accelerator-based science) 
 
Dr. Reiner Kruecken Dr. Reiner Kruecken | Dr. Reiner Kruecken is Deputy Director of TRIUMF and holds an appointment as Professor of Physics at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Kruecken received his Ph.D. in nuclear physics from the University of Cologne in 1995. He has been a member of numerous international reveiw panels, advisory committees, and editorial boards. He is chair of the Division of Nuclear Physics of the Canadian Association of Physics and the Program Advisory Committee for the Helmholtz International Centre for FAIR AND recently served on the U.S. NSAC Long Range Plan Writing Group.



Steffen Brill, K+S Potash Canada
 
Steffen Brill Steffen Brill | Senior Manager of Logistics and Transportation at K+S Potash Canada.
 
Steffen Brill studied Business Administration in Kassel, Frankfurt am Main and Breda (Netherlands). He  joined the K+S Group in 1999 as Logistics Procurement Manager. In 2013 he was appointed Senior Manager Logistics and Transportation at K+S Potash Canada GP, Vancouver, where he is responsible for the outbound logistics integration as part of the K + S Legacy project.






Dr. Tilman Thrum, Amec Foster Wheeler

Dr. Tilman Thrum graduated from the University of Karlsruhe in Germany in 1997 with a doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering. Tilman’s research focus was on high-power electrical systems for the development of the world's most powerful light sources and rapid heating technology used for material testing and the semiconductor tool industry. In 2014 he joined Amec Foster Wheeler as the Engineering Manager for Substations in the Vancouver office where he directly managed a team of over 120 engineering personnel. He is now Operations Manager within the company’s Transmission and Distribution Sector, responsible for all operational aspects of the delivery of capital projects and programs of varying complexity and with capital costs of up to $100M.


Adam Solheim, Amec Foster Wheeler
 
Adam Solheim Adam Solheim | Adam Solheim is a Project Manager at Amec Foster Wheeler and an Electrical Engineer by training who is responsible for all aspects of project delivery from concept to commissioning. He graduated from BCIT in 2004 with a Diploma of Technology in Electrical Engineering (Power) and received a Bachelor of Engineering at UVic in 2009. Prior to working at Amec Foster Wheeler, Mr. Solheim worked for BC Hydro  as a Protection and Control technologist.



Karin Reinhold, STIBC
 
Karin Reinhold Karin Reinhold | Karen Reinhold has been a Certified Translator and Interpreter for German<>English since 1992. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Translation from Germany and has been working as a Court and Conference Interpreter, as well as a certified translator for over 20 years. She earned her Master’s degree in Education and worked as a coordinator of the Interpreting Certificate Programs at Vancouver Community College. She has extensive teaching experience in the field of interpreting, translation, professional standards and best practices. Karin has been an Executive Board member of the Society of Translators & Interpreters of British Columbia (STIBC) since 2013 and has been serving as its President since June 2016.


Christine Korte, Goethe-Institut Toronto
 
Christine Korte Christine Korte | Christine Korte is currently Language Department Assistant at the Goethe-Institute Toronto and PhD candidate at York University in Toronto in Communications and Culture. She has held a visiting lectureship at the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität, Mainz, two DAAD scholarships, and spent the 2015-2016 academic year as a visiting scholar in the Department of German at University of California, Berkeley.
