Nadia Murad Basee Taha is a Yazidi woman and Nobel Peace Prize nominee who survived the massacre of her family and sexual enslavement by ISIS; she currently lives in Germany. In December 2015, Yazda arranged for Nadia to speak at the UN Security Council’s first ever session on human trafficking. Recently, high profile international law and human rights law barrister, Amal Clooney, signed on to represent Yazda and victims of the Yazidi genocide, including Ms. Murad Basee Taha, at the International Criminal Court. On July 19th, Nadia and a representative from Yazda will speak at the Canadian House of Commons Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration as part of a study on Immigration Measures to Protect Vulnerable Groups.

Rozin Hanjool is the Women’s Affairs Manager for Yazda, a global organization leading initiatives to restore the Yazidi community and uplift survivors of the ongoing Yazidi Genocide. Ms. Hanjool has provided invaluable consultant support to ensure The Unbelievers is written and produced with cultural sensitivity and impact.

The Koffler Centre event will involve Rozin and Nadia in conversation with a Rachel Browne (Staff Reporter, VICE News). They will share their responses to The Unbelievers project and speak to the crisis of the Yazidi people and about ways Canada can help.
