In keeping with this year's motto of the Journées de la Culture - " Haut et Fort " (High and Loud) - the films presented here focus on people who don't let adverse life circumstances get them down and aren't afraid to be vocal in demanding their needs and their place in the family, in their village community and ultimately in society. In the fictionalized childhood story of one of Germany's most popular comedians, All About Me (Der Junge muss an die frische Luft) by Caroline Link, little, somewhat chubby Hans-Peter (later known as Hape Kerkeling), discovers early on his talent for making others laugh. In Mountain Miracle (Amelie rennt), the opinionated Amelie has to learn in the Tyrolean mountains that the highest peaks - aka resistances - sometimes lie within oneself.
The three films tell stories of empowerment, willpower and confidence and are suitable for the whole family. All films in the original with French subtitles. Admission is free.
Germany, 2018, 100 min.
Director: Caroline Link
With: Julius Weckauf, Sönke Möhrin, Luise Heyer, Ursula Werner, Joachim Król
Recommended from 13 years (Age Rating: 6 years)
Film adaptation of the autobiography of entertainer Hape Kerkeling: Nine-year-old, chubby Hans-Peter grows up in the Ruhr region in the early 1970s. Every day, he trains his talent for making other people laugh in his grandmother's grocery store. His party-happy relatives are also pleased with his talent. The merriment is marred by his mother's illness. While his father is at a loss for words, this spurs Hans-Peter on even more to improve his talent.
