For Pride Month, our June edition of CineZeit becomes a special event series: QueerKino.
Throughout the month, we’ll showcase three powerful and diverse stories from contemporary German cinema that explore queer identities, desires, and relationships.

QueerKino: Kokon
Thursday, June 5 at 6 PM
Goethe-Institut Toronto

Berlin-Kreuzberg in the sweltering summer.Kokon(2020), directed by Leonie Krippendorff, follows 14-year-old Nora as she quietly observes the world around her—parties, friendships, family, and the chaotic beauty of adolescence. But when she meets the bold and self-assured Romy, something inside her begins to shift. Caught between childhood and adulthood, Nora experiences her first love, heartbreak, and a growing sense of self—emerging from her cocoon into something new.
With sensitivity and warmth,Kokoncaptures the fleeting intensity of a queer coming-of-age against the vibrant backdrop of a multicultural city.

Premiered at the Berlinale and praised for its tender and authentic portrayal of youth.
