A unique journey: from architecture to contemporary art
In this lecture, N'Goné Fall will take us on a journey through her professional career, which has led her to explore the fields of architecture, publishing and exhibition curating. She will also reflect on her vision of curatorial practice, drawing on one of her flagship projects: When Things Fall Apart: Critical Voices on the Radars, presented at the Trapholt Museum in Kolding (Denmark) in 2016. Inspired by Chinua Achebe's novel Things Fall Apart (translated into more than fifty languages, including Danish), this exhibition established a dialogue with both the local context and the international upheavals of the time, marked in particular by Brexit and the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States. Throughout her presentation, N'Goné Fall will draw on rich visual documentation from When Things Fall Apart to highlight certain emblematic aspects, in particular the way in which scenography and public programmes can enrich the visitor experience. She will also discuss how her intimate knowledge of architecture has shaped and informed her conception of the role and responsibilities of the exhibition curator.
