Through the collaboration of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Goethe-Institut Montreal and fabrik Potsdam – Internationales Zentrum für Tanz und Bewegungskunst, artists Katja Visschers and Joelina Rietsche have received a residency in the studios of Circuit-Est centre chorégraphique. This residency will allow them to develop further their artistic relationship and explore new avenues of creative collaboration.
We invite you to an open, gender-inclusive workshop where we explore perception, safety, and experiences in public space together. Our residency project focuses on violence against women in public space – a topic that can feel heavy, but one that affects all of us. We warmly invite male identifying people to join the workshop as well to gain a wider perspective on this topic.
In this workshop, we aim to create a space without blame, where every person is welcome. You don’t need any prior knowledge or skills – just curiosity and openness. We will begin with a short introduction to our research so far and the methods we use. After that, you’ll have the chance to try some of these methods yourself: movement, drawing and writing. Don’t worry – we’re not looking for the next Michelangelo. These are simply tools that help us express ourselves beyond movement.
After exploring each method, we will reflect together on what we experienced, how we feel, and how we connect with one another. Our goal is to build collective awareness beyond gender and to explore how shared sensitivity can create more safety in public space. Come join us, bring your perspective, and let yourself be surprised by what you might discover.
