Presented by the Goethe-Institut Toronto

After a spring season of Goethe Film Talks featuring Hot Docs guest Daniel Kötter and Berlin “Zogma” director Malte Wirtz, the Goethe-Institut Toronto continues its ongoing behind-the-scenes conversations with emerging and veteran directors, writers, festival leaders and talent:

• Interview with Berlin directors Mohammed Abugeth & Daniel Carsenty on the TIFF 2021 world premiere of their documentary The Devil’s Drivers, accompanying Bedouins smuggling Palestinian workers through the Negev desert. A portrait filmed over five years about men living on the edge in one the most fragile regions of the world. Learn more about the project & Carsenty’s approach to filmmaking in the accompanying workshop

Conversation with director Stephanie Weimar and authors Catherine Hernandez (Scarborough; Crosshairs) and Uzma Jalaluddin (Hana Khan Carries On) about their CBC & ARTE/ZDF documentary series Writing the Land for Canada at Frankfurt Book Fair as well as both authors’ forthcoming film adaptations, Scarborough’s TIFF 2021 world premiere and Hana Khan’s Amazon Prime production by Mindy Kaling.

This fall, watch the much-anticipated Netflix premiere of Christian Schwochow’s Munich with us, based on the novel by Robert Harris about the all-decisive 1938 Munich Agreement, starring Jeremy Irons, Sandra Hüller, August Diehl, Janis Niewöhner, Liv Lisa Fries, Martin Wuttke et al. Followed by a conversation with Piers Handling, historian & former Executive Director of TIFF.
