Worldwide there is a shortage of qualified DaF (Deutsch als Fremdsprache) teachers. The training, advanced training, and continuing professional development Deutsch Lehren Lernen® (DLL) from the Goethe-Institut addresses exactly this issue: through university cooperation, the Goethe-Institut promotes a scientifically-based and practice-oriented training for future German teachers. By integrating DLL units into university teaching and through the innovative approach of action research, the programme sustainably strengthens the quality of teacher education.
The special feature of DLL is the research-oriented learning, in which students independently explore concrete challenges in the classroom and combine the results with theory. DLL promotes critical reflection, exchange of experience, and the sustainable improvement of the quality of German language teaching.
It’s about supporting the training of future German teachers and making it as practical as possible. The goal is that, as a result, German lessons will be attractive and modern. This will succeed when the teachers are methodologically, didactically, and linguistically capable.
