What is the experience as an accompanying teacher at IDO like?
Accompanying teachers will take part in a training seminar on current pedagogical developments in German as a foreign language teaching as well as on culture-oriented programmes for German lessons and the "Schule der Zukunft" (school of the future). The training seminar will take place in the same location as the IDO activities.
There will be plenty of time for you to ask questions, exchange ideas with colleagues about your own creative teaching practice, and to engage in leisure and cultural activities together with the IDO participants. You will take part in the opening, closing and award ceremony.
You are also responsible for chaperoning the two students travelling with you (if necessary, travel to and from their home country to Germany and back, assistance with certain programme points/activities as part of the IDO, if necessary also duty of care in the event of illness of the students).

For whom: German teachers from state schools in the UK
When: 13.07.-22.07.2026
Where: Mannheim
Costs: Scholarship, travel expenses will be covered for a return journey from the UK to Mannheim.
Requirements:
You are responsible for the two UK finalists who take part in the IDO.
Additionally, you participate in the training seminar for teachers throughout duration of the IDO.
You have not received any other scholarship from the Goethe-Institut from 2024 until 2026
Availability on the 13 March 2026 to attend the national IDO final at the Goethe-Institut
