- Part of series: 50 years of the Goethe-Institut Glasgow
As part of the Goethe-Institut Glasgow's 50th anniversary celebrations, saxophonist and composer Raymond MacDonald will sprinkle some saxophone stardust in two performances.
14:00: Captivating improvisation session with the saxophone.
14:30: Music inspired by David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust as part of the event Starman, followed by a discussion with Reinhard Kleist. Reinhard will be live-drawing throughout the event.
Raymond MacDonald is a saxophonist, composer and academic who has released over 60 records and toured and broadcast worldwide. His work explores the boundaries and ambiguities between what is conventionally seen as improvisation and composition.
Much of his recent performing work has been in collaborative free improvisation contexts. His roots in jazz and pop music are always evident in his playing and writing.
MacDonald collaborates widely and internationally with many of the current pioneers in avant-garde music. He has also worked with visual artists, dancers, writers and filmmakers, and has produced music for film, television, theatre and the concert hall.
