We are delighted to continue our German cinema series in cooperation with the Institut Français in Edinburgh with a screening of Der scharlachrote Buchstabe with English subtitles.

Adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne′s classic novel: In the America of the late 17th century, the attractive Hester raises her child alone. Since she refuses to disclose the name of her misbegotten daughter, she is forced to wear a scarlet "A" on her clothes – as a sign for adultery. When her long believed to be dead husband returns to the village, the situation escalates, since he wants to take revenge on Hester′s lover.
