The two main Indigenous languages for this workshop are the Balik language from East Kalimantan and the Orang Rimba language from Jambi.
The Balik language is spoken by the Balik Tribe, the Indigenous people of North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan. Currently, there are only about 50 active speakers of this language. The Orang Rimba language is spoken by the Orang Rimba tribe, who live in the Bukit Dua Belas National Park in the Jambi Region of Indonesia. The tribe currently has a population of roughly 1,775 people. Both of these languages are at risk of extinction, primarily due to the loss of their ancestral forests. Therefore, digital preservation efforts for these languages are critical in preventing their extinction.
