 50 Years After the Passing

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the passing of philosopher and political thinker Hannah Arendt (1906–1975), the Goethe-Institut Indonesia, together with various partners, is organizing a series of programme from May to December 2025. Various activities such as film screenings, discussions, lectures in Jakarta, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Bandung, and online will take place within the framework of the remembrance events. Several scholars, artists, and activists from Indonesia and beyond will gather to explore the relevance of Arendt's thoughts in the contemporary context, with a focus on philosophy, politics, social studies, and cultural studies.

A new issue of ZEITGEISTER magazine, due out in mid-October 2025, will be dedicated to Hannah Arendt – a thinker whose questions about freedom, responsibility, and judgment are more relevant today than ever. The articles shed light on Arendt's life and work from different perspectives and invite readers to reconsider her ideas in light of current challenges.
